God Uses F-A-T People
We place a lot of emphasis these days on creating new ideas and new methods to grow our churches and develop our organizations. But whenever God has a job to do and a gap to be filled, he always starts by choosing and calling an individual. While men use methods, God’s methods are men and women.
To start a nation as His special witness on earth He chose Abraham to be the father of ancient Israel. When He needed someone to lead ancient Israel out of slavery in Egypt he called the reluctant Moses. And so it was with Joseph, Samuel, Esther, David, John the Baptist, Mary, Peter, Paul and many other lesser known individuals.
God is still looking for men and women who are prepared to stand in the gap to rescue lost souls and to do His work on earth. God is looking for F-A-T people, not necessarily those who are overweight but those that are Faithful Available and Teachable.
F – FAITHFUL . You do not need to be a Peter or Paul or Hudson Taylor or Billy Graham. Consider the twelve disciples. They were a strange collection of rough fishermen and a despised tax-collector and the like. But God uses ordinary people. People that are simple faithful and obedient who commit their way to God and with His help attempt to serve Him and follow Him in all life’s circumstances.
A – AVAILABLE. Years ago I found that I was afraid to be a witness for Him.
I was afraid of what people would say, I was terrified at the thought of getting up and speaking in front of a crowd of people. But in my weakness I made myself available since then have travelled all over the world and spoken in large churches and small churches done numerous radio interviews and appeared on TV, written hundreds of articles, scores of booklets and published seven books. I have met and interviewed some of the most high profile Christians in the world. Not because I had any special talent or gift and I am not exactly a fluent orator, but simply because I made myself available. He wants to use you in some way as well but you have to make yourself available.
T- TEACHABLE. One reason why God used the disciples was not only were they faithful and available but they were also teachable. They spent three years with the Master Teacher and absorbed so much teaching that was completely new to them. We have to be teachable and learn to know God’s way by diligently studying God’s Word and to implement those teachings in our daily lives.
When Joshua took over from Moses to lead the children of Israel into the promised land it must have been with much fear and trepidation. So Moses gave him some wise advice, “Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do.” (Joshua 1.8 NLT)
Therefore if you want God to use you and be part of your daily life I would encourage you to pray and tell God that you are available and renew that prayer and consecration every day and be sure to read, study and meditate on the Word of God. This is the recipe for success and progress in the Christian life
